CHART READING 101
Part 1
Daily Supplement
Thursday April 22, 1999

In keeping with our "real time" theme here, let's take a quick look at a couple of situations which could be relevant for tonight's card at the Meadowlands …

First, I need not say this, but I will. At least during this series, you should be saving ALL the Meadowlands charts. I will include the relevant portions here, at least for now, but to make things easier on me and you - have them ready.

Also -- during these daily supplements, I will be asking questions. The first person to respond with the correct answer for the question will get into GOLD CLUB for the upcoming month, so stay tuned.

Yesterday we looked at Race 2 from 4/14, one with an extremely fast first half relatively speaking. MONITRIX, who had closed strongly in that race but in the slow part raced in the first race last night and finished 4th in a decent effort. POWER OF THUNDER who was used in the first half of that mile also raced in the 1st last night. He appears to have gotten an insane drive - appears way overused. WHITE HOT HANOVER from that race was predictably over bet and did not impress.

The answer to yesterdays quiz - the key race to spot a sharp closer from April 14, was race 3, shown below.

Racing tonight from the 10-hole is the winner of this race, COINKYDINK, who showed good early speed in this race, parking a challenger to the quarter before yielding. Notice the fractions of this race with the last half being an exceptionally fast one for this evening. Further, the 2 quarters that seemed to matter were the 1st and 4th, and COINKYDINK was used strongly and effectively in both of these parts of the race.

WEWANNAWIN in fact raced yesterday, and it would have been nice to get some confirmation with a winning performance by that one. She was, however, used very aggressively and had reason to falter.

Todays question relates to the broad view - taking a broad-view look at the races on 4/15 and 4/16 - all things being equal, which of these 2 nights would seem to be a more potent place to spot in-shape front runners from the charts, and why? First correct answer gets complimentary May Gold Club.
